An t-Sultain – September 2017
Believe it or not, Tha Seo Math Dhuibh – Good for You has been running for five months now! September has been a fantastic month in the project’s journey where we continue to see the benefits of creative activities in different areas of the community.
Taisbeanadh le Luchd-cùraim òg – Skye & Lochalsh Young Carers Exhibition
Thairis air an cola-deug mu dheireadh, tha taisbeanadh air a bhith againn den obair-ealain agus dealbhan a rinn luchd-cùraim òg thairis air na laithean-saora. Abair gun robh e math an obair aca fhaicinn!
Over the last fortnight, we have had artwork and photographs from the Skye & Lochalsh Young Carers’ Summer Art Project on display at Aros. Some of the young people came along to have a look at their prints in the flesh for the first time at the launch of their exhibition.
The group also had some drinks and nibbles and heard a few words from Kate McMorrine, one of the artists who was involved in the project along with artists Cailean MacLean and Iain Smith.
Skye and Lochalsh Young Carers are now going to have a calendar made with some of their photographs, chosen by the carers themselves. By request, prints of the photos can also be purchased via the charity. All the profits will go to the carers. Keep an eye out on their website or on Facebook for more details.
Teiripe-ealain – Art Therapy @ Bùdhmòr
Tha Gail MacGregor air a bhith ag obair le buidheann de dhaoine nas sine ann am Port Rìgh gach seachdain. Tha a h-uile duine a’ deanamh obair chruthachail steidhichte air turas, agus tha seo a’gabhail a-steach peantadh agus a’ cruthachadh collage. Tha gu leòr còmhradh, craic agus òran no dhà ann cuideachd!
Gail MacGregor is working with some of the residents of Bùdhmòr Care-home. They have spent the last nine weeks working on the theme of ‘Journeys’. Their work has so far incorporated making collages and painting on envelopes. The sessions always spark conversation, craic and the odd sing-song!
Dealbh-cluich:- The Sky is Safe
Thàinig buidheann dràma bho Dogstar Theatre leis an dealbh-cluich, The Sky is Safe gu Aros air a mhìos seo. Thadhail a’ bhuidheann air Ard Sgoil Phort Rìgh airson ceistean a fhreagairt, agus air an oidhche thàinig dà bhuidheann bhon sgoil airson a’ phìos fhaicinn air an àrd-ùrlar.
We had Dogstar Theatre come to Aros to perform The Sky is Safe, an award-winning play about an encounter between a Scottish businessman and a Syrian refugee. The theatre group went to Portree High School for a Q & A with pupils. In the evening two groups of pupils, one studying drama and the others studying Modern Studies came to see the performance at Aros.
Sgrìobhadh Cruthachail – Creative Writing @ An Crùbh
Leis cho soirbheachail ‘s a bha na bùithean-obrach mu dheireadh, chuir sinn air dòigh buidheann sgrìobhaidh gach mìos anns a’ Chrùbh ann an Slèite. ‘S e am bàrd, Rody Gorman, a bhios aig an stiùir. Bidh an ath bhuidheann a’ tighinn còmhla air Disathairne 14mh An Dàmhair agus tha fàilte romhaibh.
We are holding monthly Creative Writing Group Workshops in Sleat, one in Gaelic and one in English. These have inspired the current participants to get writing – perhaps you would like to join them! This is always a relaxed, friendly and inclusive group, and what’s more, you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee from the café. The next session will be on October 14th at An Crùbh, Duisdale.
Air Diciadain, bha seisean againn ann am Port Rìgh le Maoilios Caimbeul. Choimhead a bhuidheann air bàrdachd agus fhuair iad cothrom pìos bàrdachd a sgrìobhadh air a chuspair ‘an aodann’. Cùmaimbh sùil a-mach airson barrachd fios.
In North Skye on Wednesday, we held a Poetry Writing Workshop in Portree with Maoilios Caimbeul. The group explored poems about ‘the face’ and everyone wrote their own piece. We hope to hold further workshops at the library during the winter months.
