June has been an exciting month for Tha Seo Math Dhuibh – Good for You, with lots of great workshops and events.
The first of our writing workshops was led by Rody Gorman at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in Sleat – read about it here.
The second, with Myles Campbell, took place at the Portree Community Library. Myles’ session focussed on the short story. Myles discussed the elements of the Modern Short Story, some of his own work, the work of other writers, and we read A Happy Ending by Anton Chekov.
We then looked at some examples of flash fiction – works of only 25-50 words – and had a go at writing a piece of flash fiction of our own. Everyone who attended left with an idea to flesh out into a short story.
Knitting in Carbost
We held our first Learn to Knit Taster Session in Carbost. Hazel Raee taught knitting and crocheting skills to the group at the Caora Dhubh Coffee Shop. The group is knitting to yarnbomb the Carbost Playpark in September – this involves covering the space in knitting. Why not join us next time?
Knitting takes place every Sunday in July from 3-4pm at Aros Café Bar.
Movement Classes at Bùdhmòr
Meena Watts and residents at the Bùdhmòr Care-home have been having a ball every Tuesday morning, learning dance routines, moving about and generally having fun! The pictures speak for themselves.
Workshop by Twelfth Day
Six talented young clàrsach players attended an afternoon workshop in Portree High School by the contemporary folk duo, Twelfth Day. Along with Catriona Price on fiddle and Esther Swift on pedal harp, they arranged a beautiful and evocative piece which they later performed on stage with the duo at a concert at Aros.
